This week in Art, the children have been learning about relief sculpture. A relief sculpture is a type of artwork where the design is raised from a flat surface, rather than being fully three-dimensional. We discussed how coins are a great example of this, as the portraits on them are slightly raised.
The children then created their own relief designs, exploring how to build up shapes and patterns to create a raised effect. This work links closely to our current topic on Islamic art, where we have been looking at the use of repeating patterns and decorative designs.
The class worked really carefully and creatively, and we were very impressed with the detail and thought that went into their pieces!
