Curriculum experiences
Each year group benefits from planned curriculum experiences that bring learning to life. These visits, workshops, immersive experiences and themed days are carefully linked to classroom learning, helping children deepen their understanding, make connections and create lasting memories throughout their primary school journey
EYFS
Children in EYFS begin their enrichment journey through local exploration and first-hand experiences. This includes a local walk linked to the “Let’s Explore” curriculum theme, a place of worship visit, a local garden centre visit linked to the “Ready, Steady, Grow” theme, and an Animal Safari visit to Wingham Wildlife Park. These experiences help younger children explore their local area, understand the world around them and develop curiosity through practical, memorable learning.
Year 1
In Year 1, pupils take part in experiences that support early learning in history, geography, science and the wider curriculum. These include Forest School and shelter building, a local fire station visit or firefighter visit, a Great Fire of London workshop, a VR London experience linked to the “Bright Lights, Big City” theme, a place of worship visit, an in-school Victorian day, and visits linked to animals, farms, food and local produce.
Year 2
Year 2 pupils experience a broad range of enrichment linked to exploration, history, geography and the wider world. Planned opportunities include a Pirates and Islands VR experience, an aviation-linked visit to Headcorn Aerodrome or Maidstone Museum, a Coastline experience at Reculver Coastal Classroom, a Titanic workshop, a VR experience linked to the “Let’s Explore the World” theme, and an Aztec art themed day.
Year 3
In Year 3, enrichment focuses on bringing history, geography and science topics to life. Pupils take part in a Stone Age to Iron Age workshop at Kent Life, a place of worship visit, a VR volcanoes experience linked to “Rocks, Relics and Rumbles”, an in-school Roman workshop, and a science-linked visit connected to plant nutrition, such as a local allotment, flower farm or florist.
Year 4
Year 4 pupils build their understanding of history, geography and faith through immersive visits and workshops. Experiences include an Anglo-Saxon and Viking living history workshop at Wildwood Kent, a VR mountain experience, a local river-focused walk, a place of worship visit, and an Ancient Egyptian workshop linked to the “Ancient Civilisations” curriculum theme.
Year 5
In Year 5, pupils explore world history, food production, culture and archaeology through a range of practical experiences. These include a VR China experience linked to “Dynamic Dynasties”, a Sow, Grow and Farm experience involving an allotment, farm-to-plate or supermarket visit, a place of worship visit, and a Groundbreaking Greeks experience.
Year 6
Year 6 pupils take part in enrichment that supports deeper historical, cultural and geographical understanding. Experiences include an African drumming workshop, a VR Antarctica experience linked to polar exploration, and a Britain at War experience.
